Fundraisers brave cold to take festive dip in the sea for Samantha

BRIDLINGTON: Fifty brave souls ran into the North Sea to raise funds for Samantha Hudson.

Miss Hudson, 27, is recovering in hospital following a fire at her Clarence Avenue home which claimed the lives of her three children, William, 9, AJ, 5, and Maddie, 3.

Money will also go towards the local paramedic and ambulance service.

Organiser Janet Connelly said: "It was a fantastic turnout and an amazing atmosphere."

The event was started 45 years ago by Des Connelly and carried on by his son and Janet's late husband Warwick, who died two years ago from kidney failure.

Among the daredevils taking to the sea this year included Sandy Brown and his friend Steve Riley.

Mr Brown said: "It's the tenth time I've done this and it doesn't get any easier."

Fifteen people also jumped in from the South Landing in Flamborough on Boxing Day to raise funds for the local pre school.

Sponsor money for the Bridlington event needs to be handed in at Something For The Weekend hairdressers in Market Place, Bridlington.
