. If you go

Paddling the Withlacoochee

The trail: Florida's office of Greenways and Trails maintains a 76-mile paddling trail from Lacoochee to Dunnellon. The degree of difficulty, which ranges from beginner to intermediate, depends on the water level, which fluctuates from season to season. In general, the river is usually highest during the summer rainy season.

Canoe rentals: Dunnellon's Dragonfly Watersports, (352) 489-3046; Rainbow River Canoe and Kayak, (352) 489-7854; Lacoochee's Withlacoochee River RV Park and Canoe Rental (352) 583-4778
