Play round of golf under full moon near Weeki Wachee

Toscana Crossing at the Heather, 7406 St. Andrews Blvd., north of Weeki Wachee, is hosting Night Golf under the full moon Jan. 19.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. with a shotgun start at 6:30 p.m. Greens fees for club members are $9 to walk and $13 for a cart. Nonmembers pay $16 to walk and $20 for a cart. The fees include golf, balls and prizes. Fees must be paid at registration.

Participation is limited to 72 golfers with couples, singles or foursomes all eligible to sign up. Spouses are welcome to a party after the golf is completed. All golfers must bring their own flashlight. After golf, everyone is asked to bring an appetizer or dessert to share. The bar will also be open.

Knights of Columbus free throw contest: The St. Frances Cabrini Knights of Columbus is sponsoring its annual Free Throw Championship at 9 a.m. Jan. 8 at Notre Dame Catholic School.

The event is free for all participants. Everyone who enters will receive a certificate of participation. There will be age divisions, with winners advancing to the regional competition in February.

Registration can be completed on the day of the event; all contestants will need the signature of a parent to confirm eligibility.

The competition will be in the school's gymnasium, 1095 Commercial Way, Spring Hill.

Spring Hill Dixie Baseball: Spring Hill Dixie Baseball will have signups for the spring season in January at Anderson Snow Park in Spring Hill.

There are six dates finalized. Officials will be on hand four weeknights (Jan. 11, 13, 17 and 21) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and two Saturdays (Jan. 15 and 22) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration is $95 per child. The fee includes a 20-game schedule, practices, uniform shirts, hats and trophies awarded at the end of the season. Discounts are available for siblings. Parents need to bring birth certificates and their children so uniforms can be sized.

Toftegaard Memorial Tournament: The Nature Coast Tennis Foundation will host the 2011 Simon Toftegaard Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament on Jan. 29-30 at Delta Woods Park in Spring Hill.

The singles tournament is open to youth up to 18 years old. The entry fee is $30 per player. Participants don't need to be U.S. Tennis Association members. The entry deadline is Jan. 22. The foundation is also looking for tournament sponsors.

Tennis social: The Nature Coast Tennis Foundation will host its monthly Mixed Doubles Round Robin Social on Jan. 8 at Delta Woods Park in Spring Hill.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per player. If you need a partner, officials can help find one.

Participants don't need to be U.S. Tennis Association members.

Brooksville Bulldogs: The Brooksville Bulldogs 12-and-under and 13-and-under baseball teams are holding tryouts for the coming season.

The Bulldogs are a competitive travel baseball club based in Brooksville. The team plays doubleheaders and tournaments in Central Florida. The season begins in February and runs until December.

Spring Hill wrestling: The Spring Hill Wrestling Club, a member of the Florida Amateur Wrestling Association, is offering classes for youth in first through eighth grades.

Practices take place in the wrestling room at Springstead High School, 3300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, every Tuesday and Thursday night. The season will run through March 3.

Beginners (no or one year of experience) will practice from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Experienced wrestlers (two or more years) will have the room from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Learn to play Lacrosse: The Hernando Lacrosse Club is holding free clinics at Veterans Memorial Park in Spring Hill.

Organizers have secured the field from 6 to 8 p.m. each Thursday through Jan. 7. Coaches will be on hand to help new players, boys and girls, at the middle and high school levels, as well as returning players.

Hernando Hawks: The Hernando Hawks 13-and-under baseball team is holding tryouts for the spring season.

The Hawks are a competitive travel baseball club based in Spring Hill. For information, call Kelly Stacy at (352) 263-5966.

Umpiring clinics: The Hernando-Sumter Umpires Association, one of the largest baseball and softball umpiring associations in the state, will have five umpiring clinics in January and February.

The classes are for men and women, age 16 and older, who want to become baseball or softball umpires. They are for anyone with a basic knowledge of the game, but no prior experience, or for veteran umpires who want to become better.

The first clinic will be Jan. 9 at the Anderson Snow Sports Complex in Spring Hill. Other clinics will be Jan. 16 at Ernie Wever Youth Park in Brooksville and Jan. 23 at Ridge Manor Park in Ridge Manor.

Two more clinics will follow in Pasco and Sumter counties: Jan. 29 at the Kenny Dixon Sports Complex in Bushnell and Feb. 5 at the Wesley Chapel District Park in Pasco County.
