P.M. Cleveland Cavaliers links: Losses in 13 of last 14, with tough games ahead

Cavs play Orlando, Charlotte, Chicago and Dallas this week. Three of those teams are among league's best.

Cleveland, Ohio -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have lost 13 of their last 14 games, including Sunday night's 98-97 decision to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cavs, who surrendered a 14-point lead in the last eight minutes, are 8-22. Minnesota is 7-24, with two of its wins over Cleveland.

The Orlando Magic visit Cleveland on Tuesday night. Orlando, looking to bolster its title-contention hopes, recently re-tooled its roster with major player transactions. Going into tonight's game at New Jersey against the Nets, the Magic have won their last two games: first, snapping the San Antonio Spurs' 10-game winning streak, then ending the Boston Celtics' winning streak at 14 games.

Rick Noland, in his Cavaliers-Minnesota game story, writes for the Medina County Gazette and Elyria Chronicle-Telegram (referring to Cavs coach Byron Scott and forward Antawn Jamison):

When the losing will end is uncertain. Orlando comes to town Tuesday, then the Cavs play two games on the road, where they haven’t won since Nov. 9, before hosting Dallas next Sunday.

“This one stings a little more than almost any one this season,” Scott said. “We had it with three minutes left in the game. We really had the game won.”

Jamison agreed, saying the game should not have come down to the final possession.

“We should never have been in that situation,” he said. “They did a great job of hitting some shots and we kind of got discombobulated.”

Between the home games against Orlando and the powerhouse Dallas Mavericks, the Cavaliers play at Charlotte against the Bobcats on Wednesday night and at Chicago against the Bulls on the night of New Year's Day, Saturday.

Under-achieving Charlotte now has former Cavaliers coach Paul Silas as its interim coach, and Chicago has been playing well for the last several weeks.
