SAN FRANCISCO — Tara VanDerveer became the sixth women's coach with 800 wins as No. 8 Stanford beat San Francisco 100-45 Wednesday.
VanDerveer is 800-197 in 32 seasons, 25 at Stanford, where she is 648-146. The other 800-game winners: Tennessee's Pat Summitt, former Texas coach Jody Conradt, Rutgers' C. Vivian Stringer, North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchell and Barbara Stevens of Division II Bentley (Mass).
The win came against a team coached by former Stanford star Jennifer Azzi. Katy Steding, another former Stanford star, is an assistant for the Dons.
"Eight hundred's a lot of games," said VanDerveer, whose 7-2 team came off losses at No. 16 DePaul and at No. 5 Tennessee. "I'm just a little bit blown away about Jennifer and Katy being here and the large number."
No. 5 Tenn. 102, E. Tenn. St. 53: After leading 46-32 at halftime, coach Pat Summitt "lit into everybody." And the host Vols responded by pulling away. After shooting 44.1 percent in the first half, Tennessee (11-2) shot 60 percent in the second.
No. 14 Iowa 75, N. Iowa 64: Jaime Printy scored 27 for the host Hawkeyes. The Panthers cut a 48-29 halftime deficit to five before Printy and Kamille Wahlin hit consecutive 3-pointers for Iowa (12-1).
No. 20 G'town 73, Coppin St. 52: Sugar Rodgers had 22 points and a career-high seven assists for the host Hoyas. Georgetown (10-3) went on a 17-2 run midway through the first half.
No. 23 Syracuse 77, Clem. 58: Kayla Alexander had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Orange in the Bahamas. Alexander scored nine during a 21-5 run early in the first half, and Syracuse (9-1) closed the half with a 16-5 run to lead 44-25.
Michigan 68, No. 24 BC 55: Carmen Reynolds scored 11 of her 18 during the final 4½ minutes for the host Wolverines. The junior guard, who missed her first five 3-pointers, made consecutive ones late to put the Eagles (11-1) behind by seven.
