Hawks keep Heat on the slide with overtime win

MIAMI — Close games have been a strength for Atlanta, a weakness for Miami.

The Hawks couldn't have been happier to see those trends continue.

And suddenly, the Southeast Division looks very much like a three-team race.

Josh Smith made a go-ahead layup with 34.7 seconds left in overtime, Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford each had 19 points and the Hawks beat the Heat 93-89 on Tuesday night, sending Miami to a fourth straight loss and clawing within two games of the division lead and a game in front of the Magic.

"Everything we got (Tuesday night)," Hawks coach Larry Drew said, "we really had to earn."

In games decided by five points or fewer, Atlanta is 8-4. Miami is 1-7, the lone victory coming when the Heat simply stole one from Washington in the final seconds.

And after a streak of 21 wins in 22 games, the Heat, which played without Chris Bosh and tried several unusual lineups, is sliding.

"This was a tough one," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "No other way to say it. … It was tough to get a real handle and grip on both sides of the floor."

Johnson had a tying layup with 25.4 seconds left in regulation and two game-sealing free throws with 5.2 seconds remaining in overtime.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: D.J. Augustin had 15 points, and the visiting Bobcats held off the Bulls 83-82 to snap a three-game losing streak.

MELO HOLDUP: A proposed trade of Carmelo Anthony to the Nets is being held up over the framework of the deal, not the All-Star forward's willingness to commit to New Jersey, the Associated Press reported.

The Nets have offered to ship six players and at least two first-round draft picks to the Nuggets in the deal that would send Anthony to New Jersey along with former Pistons teammates Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton.

But the teams haven't agreed on the exact price that will persuade the Nuggets to part with their franchise player.
