In Brief

Midwives learn more about screening tests

EAST YORKS: An online resource for midwives has been launched to improve care for mums-to-be and newborn babies.

The web-based training module has been created by experts at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, the region's strategic health authority, and the UK National Screening Committee.

It aims to broaden and enhance midwives' skills and practice in six vital screening tests offered to pregnant women and newborn babies.

Jill Walker, co-project lead and regional antenatal and child health screening manager at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "This learning module is a fantastic initiative – it's flexible and truly engaging and makes learning quick and easy for busy midwives.

"Screening is very important for pregnant women and newborn babies.

"It can help midwives identify certain health conditions early on, so that appropriate care can be given.

"We're committed to helping midwives continue to improve their professional skills and practice so they can offer the best possible care to new mums and babies."

EAST YORKS: A golf tournament has been organised to raise money for the Love You 2 appeal, the Mail's charity of the year.

It will take place at Hessle Golf Club in Raywell, near Cottingham, on Friday, June 24, and will be followed by a black tie presentation dinner, as well as an evening of entertainment.

Teams of four will be asked to pay 325 to enter, which also includes eight places for the dinner.

Additional places for the meal are available at a cost of 28 per person.

To enter a team, call the appeal office on 01482 785744, or e-mail loveyou2@dovehouse.org.uk for more information.

The Love You 2 Appeal aims to raise 2.5 million in two-and-a-half years to expand facilities at Dove House Hospice in Chamberlain Road, east Hull.

Almost 400,000 has been raised through fundraising events and donations so far.

HULL: Places are still available to take part in Jane Tomlinson's Hull 10K on Sunday, May 15.

About 2,000 of the 5,000 places available have already been snapped up.

The route will start and finish in the Queens Gardens area of Hull city centre.

Participants can raise money for any cause.
