Street renaming ceremony takes place

A street in Evington is to be renamed and reopened.

Jame Walk will be officially reopened tomorrow at 11.45am, by Councillor Abdul Osman, and local ward councillor Councillor Mary Draycott.

The area around the Jame Mosque, in Asfordby Street, has undergone improvements including new paving, street lighting and tree-planting, along with new litter bins and fences

The Coleman Ward Community Meeting approved 5,400 for the street refurbishment and a further 40,000 came from Leicester City Council's budget for environmental improvement works.

Coun Osman, the city council's cabinet member for transport and regeneration, said: "We've taken on board the wishes of people living in this area, both with the environmental improvements and the re-naming of the road itself."
