Alert issued after assaults on two lone women

Police have issued an alert after a man twice attempted to grab and kiss women in the street.

The suspect assaulted the two women in the Narborough Road South area, on the Blaby/Leicester border.

The first incident happened at about 8.20pm on Thursday, March 10, when a 22-year-old woman was walking through the underpass near to the junction with Kingsway.

A week later, on Thursday, March 17, a 17-year-old girl was assaulted in a similar fashion in an underpass near to the junction with Gwencole Crescent shortly after 5.30pm.

Police are linking the two incidents. Officers said both victims had just got off the Arriva 50A bus from the city centre. It is believed the suspect may also have been travelling on the bus.

Detective Constable Nick Freeman, of Blaby CID, said: "While no-one has been harmed in these incidents, they are very distressing for the victims involved.

"We've had these two very similar reports, which is naturally very concerning.

"We hope that by alerting people, in particular lone females, to these incidents it will make them extra vigilant when walking out alone.

"It is always important to remember your own personal safety.

"If walking alone is unavoidable, consider carrying an alarm."

Officers are carrying out extra patrols in the area.

The suspect is Asian, about 5ft 9in, of slim to medium build and aged between 30 and 40.

Anyone with information should contact Det Con David Greenhalgh on 0116 222 2222.
