More explanations from Joe Lieberman that don't make sense

PH2009121600185.jpgJoe Lieberman did a bit more 'splaining on Tuesday to sync his opposition to Medicare buy-in with his, uh, support for Medicare buy-in. The support, Lieberman said, came "before the Finance committee came out with this very large -- and again, I'd say generous, but I support it -- system of subsidies, to bring, basically lower-middle income people into the health insurance system."

Brian Beutler, quite sensibly, asked, "Weren't those subsidies baked into the health care reform architecture long before that, with the HELP Committee bill?"

"Not to that extent," Lieberman replied.

For those keeping score at home, the HELP Committee's bill had a significantly larger and more generous subsidy scheme than did the Finance Committee bill.
