Leicestershire pair through to next round of BBC1's So You Think You Can Dance

Dancers Luke Jackson and Tom Shilcock did enough to survive the first round of eliminations in the BBC1 show So You Think You Can Dance.

Millions of viewers watched and voted as the pair, both from Leicestershire, competed against 18 other hopefuls on Saturday night.

The 10 boys and 10 girls partnered up and had been feverishly rehearsing their routines all week to avoid being booted out in the show's first competitive week.

Jazz dancer Luke, 30, from Aylestone, said: "It was quite stressful standing there and waiting for Cat Deeley to tell us whether we'd made it through or not.

"I'm glad I didn't have the stigma of being voted out in the first week.

"It's a weird feeling to think people have voted for you, I just hope I do enough to keep them voting so I can stay in."

Tap dancer Tom, 23, from Croft, near Narborough, also survived the public vote.

Both dancers had an army of friends and family with banners and T-shirts in the audience to give them support.

Paige Smith and Ryan Jenkins became the competition's first casualties.

The participants are competing for a chance to win 50,000 prize money and an invitation to dance on the US version of the show.

Last year's show was won by Melton-born dancer Charlie Bruce, who has gone on to star as Baby in the West End's Dirty Dancing.
