Teenagers blamed for attacks on 11 village cars as mirrors ripped off and doors dented

YOUTHS are being blamed for causing hundreds of pounds of damage to almost a dozen cars in one village.

Wing mirrors have been ripped off, doors dented and paintwork scratched on 11 cars in Anlaby since last month.

Police have also received reports of youngsters walking over vehicles and setting residents' rubbish on fire.

Simon Stevens, a self-employed company director, said his van doors had been dented on both sides.

Mr Stevens, 40, said: "I haven't had the work done on my van yet because I can't afford it.

"It will be expensive, perhaps up to 600. I don't think these kids think about how much their actions cost."

Officers have visited residents and schools in the Forty Steps and Wolfreton Road area, where the trouble has occurred.

They have also met with East Riding Council, which agreed to install brighter street lights in a snicket between the two streets within the next two months.

PCSO Steve Clayton, of Kirk Ella Police Station, said: "This sort of behaviour creates a nuisance for residents and can be particularly intimidating for the elderly.

"It is very frustrating for one of the car owners who had a wing mirror damaged only for a new one to be damaged again."

The suspects – two girls and seven boys – are about 15 to 16 years old. One is said to be 5ft 9in, with long blond hair, possibly curly on top, with pale skin and was seen wearing a baseball cap, a light top and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222.
