ASHBURN, Va. — Washington's Kyle Shanahan took his turn at the microphone Friday, challenging comments made by Donovan McNabb's agent.

Not that the Redskins' offensive coordinator provided clarity to the ongoing saga involving the quarterback.

Shanahan said agent Fletcher Smith's comments were "disturbing," so he spoke "face-to-face, man-to-man" with McNabb on Thursday night. He said McNabb told him his agent's claims were untrue. Smith said in a statement Thursday that the "tension" between his client and the coaches is due to McNabb's suggestions for improving the offense.

"When I talked to Donovan, he said he didn't say any of that," Shanahan said during a weekly television interview. "I'm like, 'Well, your agent did, which to me is you.' He said he didn't agree with any of that, that those words didn't come out of his mouth and that he didn't tell his agent that stuff. So all I can go off of is what Donovan tells me."

The agent stood by his comments.

FINES: The league fined 16 players, eight in each conference, for illegal hits. Falcons defensive end Kroy Biermann and Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones were docked the most, $15,000.

JAGUARS: Running back Maurice Jones-Drew missed a third straight day of practice and was listed at doubtful for Sunday against Washington.

JETS: Quarterback Mark Sanchez was listed as probable and is expected to start Sunday against the Bears after being limited with a sore right shoulder.

LIONS: Quarterback Matthew Stafford went on injured reserve with a separated right shoulder.

VIKINGS: Quarterback Brett Favre was listed as doubtful with a concussion, leaving the door open for the 41-year-old quarterback to play Sunday night against the Eagles.
